    Virtual Open Rehearsal Night
    Monday, October 26, 2020; 7-9:00 pm
    Zoom meeting

What can an acappella chorus do during this COVID-19 pandemic? “Plenty!” says Joanne Morrison, chorus board president. “Although we can’t meet in person right now, we are fully engaged in learning new music and honing our skills.”

Harmony Fusion is using the Zoom platform to meet every Monday evening, with physical and vocal warm-ups, practice in breakout rooms, and lots of music education. Because travel issues are eliminated, it is easier to have guest coaches and educators visit from all over the world. The singers are also working on a virtual chorus video to share with family and friends for the holidays. This is the perfect time to get involved in chorus singing!

“We’re looking for women who love to sing and are interested in performing, competing, and improving their vocal skills,” says Morrison. “If you have a good ear for music, we want you!  The ability to read music is not required!”

Harmony Fusion Chorus, a chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI), is open to female singers as young as high school age. Weekly “virtual” rehearsals are held on Monday nights, 7pm - 9pm using Zoom.  Guests are welcome to join and can email info@harmonyfusion.org to get the Zoom link and information.

At this special virtual open house, guests will learn about singing in the barbershop style, learn to sing a song or a “tag” – the close-harmony ending of a song – and find out what being a member of Harmony Fusion Chorus can offer.

Music education in barbershop singing is the mission of Sweet Adelines, and the chorus’s director, Barb Vander Putten takes that to heart.

“We perform at events throughout the East Bay (in non-COVID times), as well as competing annually in our SAI region which includes choruses from Hawaii, Northern CA, Southern Oregon, and Nevada,” says Vander Putten.  “In addition to the joy of singing in our sisterhood, members have multiple opportunities to learn from other directors and coaches, as well as leadership skills and chorus management.” SAI Membership includes access to weekend workshops in vocal techniques, singing in a quartet, learning to direct, and all aspects of performing.

Harmony Fusion has been recognized for its high member retention rate, and is a three-time winner of the SAI Region 12 BRAVO Award (Best Retention And Value to the Organization). “We are extremely proud of the award as we were the first and only chorus to receive the award three times! We believe it is due to our welcoming and supportive culture,” says Morrison.
